Namibia shines in ‘good governance' - by Staff Reporter, 12 October 2011

WINDHOEK – Namibia has scored 70 out of 100 for good quality and is ranked 6th out of 53 countries scrutinised by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, an organisation that supports good governance and leadership in Africa.

Namibia scored higher than the regional average for Southern Africa, which is 58, and it also got more than the continental average that is 50.

Another positive development is that Namibia is ranked 4th out of 12 countries in Southern Africa, that is the top performing region in the 2011 index. The top five in the 2011 Ibrahim Index in terms of human development, education, health, infrastructure, accountability and rule of law are Mauritius with a score of 82, followed by Cape Verde on 79, while Botswana came third with 76, Seychelles came fourth with 73 and South Africa 71.
