In Namibia, the Ministry of Works and Transport and the German Embassy broke the ground for a new project in Okalongo yesterday: 34 access roads in northern Namibia will be flood-proofed over the next two years. 

Flood-proofing of roads with a combined length of 128 km in Omusati and Ohangwena region will improve access to 7 clinics and 18 schools. "Better access to clinics in the rainy season can have a life-saving character", Stella Seibert-Palaschino (German Embassy Windhoek) said in her speech at the ceremony.

23316824 1542798675836092 439263816369095870 nMinister !Naruseb underlined, that the roads will be built by 6 "Emerging Contractors". These Namibian Small and Medium Enterprises have undergone training and gathered experience which allows them to conduct the works on their own accountability without guidance by main contractors.

The project will cost approximately 12,4 million Euro (200 million Namibian Dollar) of which 60 million Namibian Dollar will be contributed by the Namibian government. The project fosters economic development and social progress through improved access to education and health services.
